Friel began playing the guitar at an early age. Forming a band with his brother, he was performing in Hampton Roads venues by the age of 17. In his twenties, Friel regularly performed as a solo acoustic act or with his folk rock band. Following his 2007 album release, Friel was named winner - 2007 Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards for Best International Folk Male Artist." Friel's songs have received local radio airplay on several stations throughout 2007 and into 2008.
More recently Friel was nominated - "2008 Port Folio Magazine Music Awards" for "Best Acoustic/Folk Act" and "Best Album." The music of Skip Friel has the character and spirit needed to catch your interest and hold your heart.
